Dairy Good Berry Smoothie Recipe from the Garden

What completes your plate? Dairy. So we started the day with our milk mustaches to see if the kids would notice anything different about us. We got some pretty funny looks, but it was the perfect ice breaker to ask if any of the kids had dairy foods included in their breakfast that morning.

Our goal? Teach the kids why it’s so important to have dairy three times a day. Why?
• Builds strong bones and teeth
• Builds and maintains muscle
• Gives us energy
• Helps with healthy blood pressure

We talked about trying different types of milk if you aren’t fond of white milk. We also talked about how yogurt and cheese are excellent sources of dairy too, and can help you get to three a day. The kids were excited to try on their milk mustaches and complete a puzzle for a prize. Including the coolest spoons to help you drink up your milk at the bottom of your cereal bowl.

We received a lesson from our horticulturist, Aimee, on what parts of the plant are really edible.  We have a variation in our garden of edible roots, stems, flowers, leaves and seeds.

A game the kids love in the garden? Plants and Robbers. AKA weeding.

Harvesting is also a favorite activity.
