Make Mondays MomDays!

It’s time to launch!  There was a period of time a couple of years ago where I felt like I was a rocket on the launch pad headed for space, with my engines lit and burning but for some reason, not actually launching off the launch pad.  The engines that were burning were all the ideas swirling around in my head about what I really felt I was meant to be doing – helping moms nourish their families.  But even though I was on the launch pad, where I was launching to wasn’t ready yet.

Well, today is the day.  I am launching my new website with only you in mind, moms.  Does this speak to you?

Here are my 5 beliefs:

  • More than anything, moms desire healthy families and want to do what’s best for the health of their kids.
  • Busy moms need to be nourished too, in order to be successful at nourishing their families.
  • Moms want to pass on a positive legacy to their children.
  • Just because a mom has a career outside the home, doesn’t mean that the health of the family needs to be sacrificed.
  • Moms want to feel confident with their skills in the kitchen.

I am making Mondays into MomDays!

MomDays are days when we as moms commit to doing something to nourish our kids.  I always start the week with good intentions and too many times the week has gotten away from me.  That’s why Mondays are the best days of the week to make the commitment to a healthy legacy for our kids.  As I talked about in my recent TEDx presentation, moms really can change the world starting right in our own kitchens at the kitchen counter in the form of a Kitchen Counter Cooking School.  Think of all the little lessons we can teach before our kids leave home and how prepared our kids will be.

Kitchen Counter Cooking School

So here’s what I want you to do:

Think back to your childhood and what kitchen memory comes to mind?  Is it a favorite recipe?  Is it cooking something with your mom?  Share your favorite memory in the comments.

And do this one thing: Commit today that you will make Mondays MomDays where you will intentionally teach your child something in the kitchen.  It doesn’t have to be a four course meal – it is as simple as teaching them how to use a knife or how to crack an egg without the shells falling into the bowl or how a strawberry grows.  And check back each Monday MomDay for simple ideas to make your kitchen a nourishing one!

Congrats on the new site – it looks great! The best memories I have in the kitchen were singing with my mom as we would clean up after meals. Cleaning up is never fun, but it was a time a special bonding time with my mom!

Thank you Jessica! Isn’t it interesting that the simplest things create the best memories? What a great story you shared! Love it.

So excited for you, Jen! Mondays are the busiest day of the week for us during the school year. Between after school activities, homework, dance lessons and a new commitment of me as a parent to exercise, we aren’t getting home until 7pm! What I have done is teach my children to choose healthy snacks that they should pack. I have bagged baby carrots, snap peas, etc. and hummus in our refrigerator ready to go. Raisins, peanut butter, grapes, celery, apple slices, etc. all washed and ready to grab. Boiled eggs, cheese sticks, yogurt and granola are also other choices. It takes planning and things don’t always work perfectly, but slowly I am changing their thoughts of a snack from candy and fruit snacks, to something healthy and satisfying. This helps tide them over between dance classes and watching me sweat, strain and practically kill myself in TRX or kickboxing class 🙂

Hi Jenny! You are doing some amazing things with your family! Really great ideas you shared on healthy snacks to pack. Despite your busy-ness, you are still making a huge impact on your kids, and committing to doing something for yourself too is really where it starts. So proud of all you are doing! Keep it up!!
