Peanut Butter Energy Bites

In one month, I saved $180 by doing one single thing.  From July 7, 2016 to August 7, 2016, my family and I harvested cucumbers, zucchini, lettuce, tomatoes, green beans, sugar snap peas, onions and potatoes from our family garden.  And in that one month (because that’s how long I kept the records), we harvested $180 worth of produce had we purchased it from the grocery store.

While I always knew gardening was worth the effort, I had never actually took the time to weigh and record our harvest, and then quantify it into real dollar savings.  Our $25 investment of a few seed packets, nutrients and seedlings into our 225-square-foot garden was not only worth the fun and memories, it also saved us quite a bit of money.

This particular fact has also been measured by the National Gardening Association.  They’ve measured a that you can save $600 annually by planting a 600-square-foot garden, because a well-maintained food garden produces ½ pound of produce per square foot per growing season.

Worth every penny.

And there’s only one thing you need to do right now to get started on that garden.

Dream.

Dream about what you would like to plant and grow.  Dream about how you would like your garden to look.  Dream about the possibilities.  Peruse garden seed catalogs, Pinterest, and gardening magazines and books.
