An award-winning dietitian, Jen is a widely known nutrition and health expert who is in demand when the topic is getting down-to-earth with food and family. Her message is simple: Busy families can spend time together connecting over food from the field to the kitchen to the fork.
Jen is an author of The Mom’s Guide to a Nourishing Garden, published spring 2016. Jen has previously been a weekly nutrition columnist for the Austin Daily Herald and has also been featured in Hy-Vee Seasons, Supermarket News, and The Lempert Report. She has been blogging since 2012.
For more than five years, Jen has been a frequent media expert on ABC 6 News. She developed and executed more than 200 weekly television segments with ease and confidence, providing a genuine sense of simplicity to optimize health. Jen has also been featured on PBS television and a Mayo Clinic Diabetes DVD produced by Gaiam. In 2013, Jen was named Greater Minnesota Media Spokesperson for the Minnesota Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
In 2012, Jen was named Emerging Dietetic Leader in Minnesota by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She continues to be a leader in her field with her supermarket and media expertise, garden program development and nutrition experience.
At the beginning of her career as a registered dietitian, Jen worked as a clinical dietitian at Mayo Clinic developing a strong base of knowledge in medical nutrition therapy for all ages and specialties. Jen then transitioned to the world of supermarket nutrition, and for the past five years, she has guided customers to wellness through supermarket tours, wellness presentations, over 200 cooking classes and endless in-store displays. With her passion for teaching families where their food comes from, Jen developed and executed the first garden in the nation to be located at a supermarket in 2011. Through the Sprouts – Get Out and Grow Program, Jen has educated over 300 children on fruits and vegetables, connecting fresh food to good health. Jen coordinated and authored a manual and curriculum on the subject of gardening with kids at the supermarket level for Hy-Vee.
Jen graduated Summa Cum Laude from Minnesota State University at Mankato. She completed her dietetic internship in the competitive program at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Jen is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Nutrition Entrepeneurs Dietetic Practice Group, the Dietitians in Business and Communications Dietetic Practice Group and the Food and Culinary Professionals Dietetic Practice Group. She has held positions at the local and state dietetic level. She enjoys camping, gardening and cooking with her husband and two children.
