The book includes everything you need to know to start a garden with over 35 different fruits and vegetables, plus 30 garden-fresh recipes. Jen’s career experience includes the mother of all healthcare centers, Mayo Clinic. For seven years, she used her complex critical thinking skills to develop nutrition care plans for all ages and for all types of complex specialties. Her favorite task was educating patients in both a class setting and individual setting where she was able to deliver nutrition education while developing relationships with her patients. Jen transitioned to the trendy field of supermarket dietetics in 2008. During her six year career as a supermarket dietitian, she won numerous awards for her creativity, marketing and nutrition education skills. Through it all, Jen’s goal always stayed the same, to educate and empower her customers through practical, down-to-earth nutrition education to greatly influence health. It was at Hy-Vee where she developed and created a nationally awarded garden program for kids, called the Sprouts Get Out and Grow program. Jen was able to teach hundreds of children about where food comes from, how to grow fruits and vegetables, and how they can be so fun to prepare and can taste oh so good. Her program and curriculum she personally developed for the 10 week course is still used today. And through her latest venture, Jen plans menus and recipes for her local school district, delivering high quality nutrition on every tray.
She’s been a regular weekly newspaper columnist for the Austin Daily Herald, been featured in national publications like Food & Nutrition Magazine, as well as Nutrition 411 and Today’s Dietitian. She’s filmed hundreds of television segments delivering down-to-earth, and science-based food and nutrition messages to inspire and educate audiences.
