Triple Berry Smoothie

blender ingredients

Great, you are back!  It’s day 2 of smoothie week.  You have your blender out and you already went to the store for some ingredients.  You are ready!

This will be fun for the whole family, in fact, you could create a new smoothie each night of the week for four days – then on the fifth day, pull out all kinds of ingredients for smoothies and host your own smoothie bar.  If you make one each night this week (or morning) you will become a pro.

Here is my daughter’s favorite recipe:

Triple Berry Smoothie

Source: Jen Haugen, RD, LD

Makes 40 ounces (5 – 8-ounce cups)

What you need:

  • 3 cups frozen triple berry blend (raspberries, blackberries, blueberries)
  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 2 (6-ounces each) cartons blueberry Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup Bolthouse Farms Blue Goodness (Naked Juice is another brand I use frequently) juice puree

All it takes (here is where it get’s complicated so simple!):

  1. Place berries, bananas, yogurt and juice puree in blender and blend for 1 minute or until all chunks are liquified.
purple smoothie

This smoothie is full of purple power – which would be a great name to use with the kids.  Purple fruits are a source of the antioxidant – anthocyanins.  Studies show that eating foods high in antioxidants may lower your risk for cancer, heart disease and brain-related diseases (Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s).  And this is a great opportunity to teach your kids why there is so much power in purple!
