Healthy Freezer Makeover

This week, I wrote a column about “what’s in the dietitian’s freezer”.  As a supermarket dietitian, I constantly get questions about how can I increase my fruit and vegetable intake?  The simple answer is to have fruits and vegetables on hand!  Hence, in the freezer!  It really is a way to eliminate excuses!

For great ideas for vegetables, fruits, protein and whole grains, check out the link to the article here:

Some of my favorite products include all kinds of delicious frozen fruit.  I love having frozen peaches, mango, pineapple, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries and blueberries on hand.  Not only do they make delicous smoothies, they are also great to use in fruit salsas, stirring into warm oatmeal and as a little dessert topped with light whipped topping and granola.  And you can save money when the fresh fruit isn’t at its best price due to seasonality!  Picked and frozen at their peak ripeness, frozen fruit is a must-have in everyone’s freezer.  You can even find small little cups of frozen fruit that all you have to do is defrost and eat!  Love this for my kids’ lunchboxes.

When you have the right ingredients available – you can make healthier choices easier!
